Lecture: “Art as Method for Promoting the Public”
Speaker: Zheng Bo
Zheng Bo shared his recent works and working methods – how he, as an artist, pays attention to and becomes involved in public matters, connects different groups of people, and observes and portrays daily life from an alternative perspective. Contemporary artists use a variety of media (painting, sculpture, image, action, language) with an emphasis on artistic creation and the environment of the exhibition. They are dedicated to turning the audience into participants, allowing strangers to meet through the arts, and facilitating the emergence of a public sphere.
The works Zheng introduced include “Sing for Her” (in collaboration with a group of Filipino maids in Hong Kong), “Plants Living in Shanghai” (in collaboration with scholars in Shanghai), “Karibu Islands” (in collaboration with Beijing LGBT Center), and “Family History Textbook (in collaboration with family members), among others.

Professor Luo Xiaoming gives a talk entitled “Urban Youth and the Rationality of Housing” at the annual conference of the Association for Taiwan Social Studies in Taipei, and a lecture on “‘Personal Sorrow’ in Urban Structures” at the Department of Chinese Literature at Tamkang University, as well as participating in the two-week project “R:EAD” (Residency East Asia Dialogue) at Tainan National University of the Arts.

Lü Zhenghui: “Leftwing Thought in Postwar Taiwan”
Speaker: Lü Zhenghui
Lü Zhenghui (b.1948), from Chiayi, Taiwan, holds an MA in Literature from National Taiwan University and a PhD in Literature from Soochow University. He has taught in the Department of Chinese Literature at National Tsing Hua University and the Department of Chinese Literature at Tamkang University, becoming an emeritus professor in 2014. His main research areas are Tang poetry and modern Taiwanese literature. His works include Du Fu and Poets of the Six Dynasties 《杜甫与六朝诗人》, Lyrical Traditions and Political Reality《抒情传统与政治现实》, Novels and Society《小说与社会》, The Literary Experience of Postwar Taiwan《战后台湾文学经验》, Reflections on Taiwanese Literary Studies《台湾文学研究自省录》and Wanderings of the CD《CD流浪记》.
