1.  Purpose of the Course: 
This is a required course for PhD/MA students planned to be offered once a year.
Focusing on the new thinking, not only the western style theory, of Cultural Studies as well as the similar academic and social activities all over the world, this course selects several key topics of contemporary life and relevant articles/book chapters to motivate the participants’ intensive reading as well as inspiring discussing in, and out of, seminar rooms.   
The course aims of improving the participants’ ability of knowing the ideological development of today’s world as well as their imagining of the various progressive possibilities in the future.  

2. Teaching Objects:  
①  Suitable for students ready for academic or professional degree
② Suitable for students majoring in Cultural Studies/Media Studies/Sociology/Modern Chinese Literature 

3. Teaching Content: 
This course contains two parts: the first is a 2-lecture introduction, given by the instructor, of the past of Chinese cultural studies and what it faces now; and the second includes 7-8 seminars focusing respectively on the key topics of today’s human life such as “obsolete   capitalism”, “social space”, “immaterial labor”, “social mediation” and “post-work society”.

Usually this course has about 20 articles/book chapters as reading materials, the list of the readings will be yearly adjusted according to the advance of global thinking of the contemporary life.
