1. Purpose of the Course: 
The course aims to historically outline the characteristics of China’s workers and peasants from the perspective of cultural studies. The course prepares the students of a general understanding of the problems of labor issues and agrarian question. The course combines the political-economic analysis and cultural analysis.

2. Teaching  Objects:  
This course aims to train students to acquire the analytical perspective of cultural studies. Students are required to obtain a general understanding of the problems of Chinese workers and peasants. They are also expected to develop their own analyses on the relevant issues.

3. Teaching  Content: 
On the basis of the book Anyuan, the course traces how the problematic of China’s workers and peasants have developed historically. It covers the historical range from the founding of the CPC up to the present days. Additional reading materials on workers and peasants are provided for reading and discussion in accordance with the chapters of Anyuan.

4. Assessment Method: Course essay, 4000-8000 words.
